ADOLESCENTS/TEENS

Adolescence child striving for individuation stressful and anxiousThere are few things more troubling to a parent, than a troubled teen.  It is a paradox that when children need a parent's guidance the most they are least likely to reach out for help.  During adolescence, a child is striving for individuation yet they often do not possess the life experience to make good choices.  It is a stressful and anxiety provoking time of life for many teens.  The spectrum can be quite wide during the teen years.  On one end, you may have a teen having difficulty fitting in due to shyness.  On the other end, you may have a teen coming out of rehab for substance abuse seeking to maintain sobriety.
 Depression teens exhibited withdrawal isolation
Adolescence can also be a time of disappointment and unfulfilled expectations.  This can lead to depression.  Depression in teens may be exhibited by withdrawal and isolation but it may also show up as irritability or acting out behaviors.  Struggles with school, friends, or family may result.  Intimidating peer pressure often complicates what is already a complex situation.
